History
The first fire protection needs of the people were served with a two-wheel red cart. This cart was housed in the Builta Brothers Garage along US 150 between Main & Perry Streets. In the early 1940's, tax dollars were made available to form rural fire protection districts. Congerville was the first established in Woodford County. The first roll showed 34 members: Orville Builta(Fire Chief), Art Oyer(Asst. Chief), Ivan Zook(President), Mike Miller (VP). The first fire truck was a Ford purchased in 1956. A permanent site for the firehouse was purchased from Sam Eglin in 1952. Since the beginning, the Congerville Fire Department has enjoyed a tremendous mutual aid relationship with our neightboring town of Carlock, Danvers, Goodfield, Deer Creek, Mackinaw, & Eureka. "The Congerville Rural Fire Protection District is pleased to see younger members of the community coming into the department as nature does its part in phasing out those members who have served so well over the years. The district hopes to be a close and vital asset to our fine community for many years to come." Submitted by E. Steffen VILLAGE OF CONGERVILLE THE FIRST 100 YEARS |
